University of California Insurance Coverage

Traveling abroad is an exciting experience. But what happens if you or one of your family members became ill or injured while away from home? International travel can quickly turn frightening if you’re not prepared for a medical emergency. Most travelers assume they will be covered by their standard medical plan. The truth is, while traditional plans may offer adequate domestic coverage, they’re not designed for international travel.

We know that the reasons for international travel are many and varied—that’s why these products are, too. Coverage is available for students, faculty, or staff traveling for leisure, business or educational pursuits. Plans provide a wide range of benefit options to meet many individual needs.

 
Student Travel Insurance Plans  
Gateway International
The Gateway International Plan provides accident and health insurance coverage for individuals who are traveling outside their home country/country of residence, except for travel to the United States. Insurance coverage is available from a minimum of 15 days up to a maximum of 180 days.
Gateway Premier
Gateway Premier provides Accident and health insurance coverage for individuals who are traveling outside their home country/country of residence for an extended period of time. Coverage is available from a minimum of six months to a maximum of five years.
Gateway Visit America

Gateway Visit America is a short-term insurance plan designed for foreign nationals who are traveling to the United States for leisure travel, such as vacation or visiting family members or friends. Terms of insurance ranging from a minimum of 15 days up to a maximum of 6 consecutive months are available.

Gateway Plus
When your education activity takes you abroad, protecting your personal possessions while you are away from your home country is something to consider. What do you do if you personal possessions are stolen or damaged or destroyed while you are oversea? How easily would you be able to replace them? The Gateway Plus Plan can help protect against financial hardship caused by loss of your personal property that you take with you or acquire while abroad.

Adventure Travel
Adventure travel excursions can be exciting and memorable, but also extremely unpredictable. That's why it makes sense to cover your next trip with the Adventure Travel Protection Plan. It offers travel coverage specifically designed with the adventurous traveler in mind.  
Protect Assist Gold
The ProtectAssist program provides important travel coverage for a domestic or international trip. The coverage provides protection for trip cancellation if you have to cancel for any reason. The policy will also reimburse you for trip interruption expenses, trip delay, missed connection, baggage and baggage delay as well as medical expenses and emergency medical transportation.
